December 2004 News
December was a busy and exciting month for the Kangaroos. Our theme, The Five Senses was incorporated into our holiday celebrations. The children were busy making lots of fun discoveries, learning about the holidays people celebrate, and creating gifts for special people.
The Kangaroos put all of their senses to work in many activities during the course of the month. Cookie baking is a popular activity this time of year, so the children put their sense of smell to work in guessing some popular cookie ingredients. The mystery ingredients were vanilla, peanut butter, chocolate, and cinnamon. Music is all around us during the holidays, and the children closed their eyes and used their sense of hearing to name some different instruments. We made a list of all the things the children saw with their eyes on the way to school, and tasted some homemade gingerbread cookies. I want to thank all of you for sending in such great items for the touching bags. The children had so much fun using their sense of touch to guess what was in each bag!
I hope you all enjoyed your holiday gifts. The children put so much effort into their projects, cards, and gift bags. It gives them such a wonderful sense of pride to create their own gifts. The cinnamon hearts were made from glue, applesauce, and cinnamon. The Kangaroos did a great job mixing and rolling the dough. They then cut them into heart shapes, and once the hearts dried out, decorated them with glitter.
I am sure you will all agree, our holiday concert was the highlight of the month. The children did a great job, and for many of them this was their first experience on stage in front of an audience. I am so proud of them for their courage and perseverance!
The month of January will focus on winter and snow. We will also talk about animals and hibernation. I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday season and my best wishes for a very happy 2005!
