November 2006 News
October’s theme was the Season of Fall. Our classroom and the school in general are ablaze with the colors of the season. During our circle time meetings we discussed the changes that occur during this time of the year. Whether it be the leaves falling from the trees during our recess time, the crackling sound that the leaves make when we run through them, or the fact that we now have to wear jackets when we go out, the children know that Fall has arrived.
There is no better field trip to take during this time of the year than to visit a farm. This year we went to a farm that we have never been to before. Prospect Hills Farm in Milton turned out to be one of the best we have been to. It’s hard to say which part of the trip the children enjoyed the most. A typical trip during this time of the year includes apple and pumpkin picking. We all had fun picking our own fruits and the bumpy hayride added to the excitement. Then the children got to press and taste their own apple cider. Most of the boys and girls loved the taste and some even wanted more. Our day ended with stories read to us in the barn and then lunch. A fun day was had by all.
Many fall activities were created at the art table. Paper bag pumpkins and pumpkin people are hanging on our bulletin boards. Fall trees were done in a couple of different ways. Orange, yellow, red and green tissue paper crumbled on black paper looks like a beautiful fall tree. The children also enjoyed the finger paint trees that they made. There's something about sticking your fingers in paint that the children love.
Thank you to the Vails Gate Fire Company that came to visit. The Starfish learned about fire safety, the reason why firefighters wear special clothing and the special equipment that they use on the fire truck.
I hope that you all had fun at the Octoberfest. Thank you to the many parents that helped. Without your help the day wouldn’t have been the success it was. Thank you!
