Happy New Year Tiger Families! I can't believe that a new year has started and that we are nearing the second term of the school year. Where has the time gone?
In Science, the Tiger class has been diligently working on their endangered animal habitat displays. Projects were started before the holiday break and they are outstanding. We can't wait to share them with you. We are continuing our Ecology Unit this month. The children will be conducting experiments and learning about pollution and how it affects our environment. This section of the Unit will cover the key concepts of the water cycle, water pollution, and water conservation. Our class will develop an appreciation and better understanding of nature and the impact we have on our environment.
The Tigers are continuing to challenge themselves when selecting great literature to read. They have read several award winning books these past few weeks: The Tiger Rising, Because of Winn Dixie, How to Eat Fried Worms , The Golden Compass, Dragon Rider, Inkheart, Sounder, and Bud, Not Buddy are just a few books they have read. This month, we will be reading Jean Craighead George's book, There's an Owl in the Shower. Mrs. George is an award winning author who has written more than sixty childrens' books. Many of Mrs. George's books discuss environmental issues that impact our environment our precious wild life. Please feel free to come into our class at any time to see what other books Mrs. George has written. As always, you are able to borrow books from our class library to read together as a family.
In Writers' Workshop, the class has been working extremely hard fine tuning their personal narratives. They have successfully been going through the writing process and conferencing with each other on how to become better writers. Great job, "Tigers", for being so flexible and understanding when conferencing with each other. This month we are going to begin writing persuasive essays on why we should protect our endangered animals.
Mike P. has been working with each child on fine tuning their power point presentations.
We are learning so much in Computers, like adding pictures from the internet, timing, and adding music. Once all the presentations are completed, we will arrange a date in order to show you the presentations.
The Tiger class would like to thank Jane and Karen for providing us with a delicious snack during our holiday gathering. If you would like to come into our class and volunteer to read a story or to help during writers' workshop, please let me know.
